Honestly, it's a matter of opinion. Some could argue that yes, it could've been avoided because the USSR and the US were allies in war, and the USSR could've helped the US if it wasn't for Stalin. Or you could argue no. You could say that the communist system of the USSR just went against the US views of economy, and that sparked tension.
