Because since no one can eat the eggs they will hatch and grow to make turtles then they will eat more slugs and plants so they will decrease since there are more turtles
If the snake population is gone then Turtles will be the top of the food chain and will rise in numbers. The more turtles, the more plants and slugs that the Turtles will consume.
