Answer:

The Egyptians utilized tunnels and caverns to remove these deposits in large blocks, then chiseled into smaller blocks for transport. A layer of mud from the Nile was used to facilitate the move of these blocks to the pyramid site, a very ingenious solution to a very heavy problem.
