Generally there is only about 4-5 levels of producers and consumers. After something gets ate its only passing 10% of the energy along with whatever is being ate. and as more animals eat other animals that's less and less energy that's getting passed down so eventually you reach the top level and they eat more than anything because they are trying to get the energy that they need to survive
