Aquatic biomes are classified into two main groups: marine and freshwater. The marine corresponds to the seas and oceans and the freshwater corresponds to lakes, lagoons and rivers. Freshwater biomes can be from standing or standing waters (lakes and ponds) and moving or standing waters (rivers).
