Step-by-step explanation:

x, y are the 2 numbers.

x/y = 9/11

x - y = 6

x = y + 6

now we use that in the first equation

(y + 6)/y = 9/11

y + 6 = 9y/11

11y + 66 = 9y

2y = -66

y = -33

x = y + 6 = -27

but the second equation could also be

y - x = 6

then

x = y - 6

and that in the first equation leads to

(y - 6)/y = 9/11

y - 6 = 9y/11

11y - 66 = 9y

2y = 66

y = 33

x = y - 6 = 27
