what are the key arguments for elected judges rather then appointments

One main argument is that elected judges are more likely to not have a poetical agenda. An appointed judge will obviously be someone with political ties to the party/official that elected them. Whilst, if we elect the judges in, we know the judge was picked based on a NATIONAL consensus, not just one person's. It's more fair, less political motives.
