What role did disease play in the defeat of the Aztecs

Well the Spanish was greatly out numbered by the Aztecs but they were more modern than them. They brought great weapons but the best one they had was disease as you may know. It killed millions of Aztecs, and the ones that survived switched to Spanish rule.
