Why did agriculture remain the leading occupation of Americans in 1800s

America remained a agriculture in the 1800 because the south would grow the cotton for the clothes and the the north would make the clothes and sell the produces to other country and within the country. The North and South worked together with that because they were both getting money for the produces. The south getting money from the north for the cotton and tabcco and the north making money for selling the produces they make from the south
