1. subtract 2b from both sides 6 = 7b - 2 - 2b
2. simplify 7b - 2 - 2b to 56 - 2 6=5b - 2
3. add 2 to both sides. 6 + 2 = 5b
4. simplify 6 + 2 = 8. 8 = 5b
5. divide both sides by 5. 8/5 = b
6. switch sides. b = 8/5
