Solution:
5y-20=14y+7: Expand
9y+7=-20: Subtract 5y from both sides
9y=-27: Subtract 7 from both sides
y=-3: Divide both sides by 9

Check:
5(-3-4)=-35
7[(2*-3)+1]=7(-5)=-35
