The likelihood of functional fixedness occurring may be influenced by culture and it is experienced with industrial and preindustrial countries alike.  Function fixedness is defined as a cognitive bias liming a person or an object to use or do something in the traditional sense of use. This way of thinking was derived in Gestalt psychology which puts a lot of emphasizes on holistic (characterizing a person as a whole) processing.
